We offer extended and long-term options for those who need more than a week-long stay. We require 1 week (7 days) notice from your scheduled appointment time for any cancellations of bookings 7 days or more. Cancellations must be communicated via phone with a member of our staff. Please give us a call should you have any further questions about the extended and long-term boarding of your pet.

Do the dogs ever have confrontations?

Like people, pets can have disagreements. However, our staff is well trained and knows the signs of when playtime may escalate into “rough” play. Should these signs be observed, our staff will immediately divert and/or separate to different activities as necessary.

How do you know the dogs will get along?

We take note of your pet’s special needs and diligently monitor each guest closely throughout the day. We select playgroups based on size, age, activity level, and play style.

What do I need to bring with my pet for boarding?

Be sure to bring your up-to-date vaccination records should you have not already provided us with them via email or your online account. We ask that you bring your pet’s regular food. Please provide enough food for your pet’s stay, preferably additional 2-3 days worth of their food in the event of an extended stay. Should you prefer to purchase our house food, we proudly serve Hills Science Diet brand food for both cats and dogs for a fee per meal. It is encouraged to provide your pet with his or her normal food to avoid stomach upset.

Can I bring my pet’s bed/toys/bowls?

We supply all bedding, bowls, and toys for your pet that are sanitized daily. We discourage bringing your pet’s belongings to ensure they are not left behind, lost during cleaning, or damaged.

What kind of food do you use if I don’t bring any?

We proudly serve Hills Science Diet for a fee per meal.

What if my pet won’t eat?

If you know your pet may be a picky eater, feel free to bring special treats from home and we can add them to their food if needed. Should your pet be displaying signs of stress or anxiety and as a result, lack of appetite, you will be contacted for the next steps to discuss further prior to administering any other food options.

My pet is diabetic and gets insulin shots. Can you give them?

Yes, we can absolutely administer your pet’s insulin shots in a timely fashion to ensure they maintain their normal levels. We require you to provide the insulin, as well as ample syringes and a detailed note outlining the dispense times and amounts. All medications, insulin included, are carefully tracked by staff and safely stored (whether refrigerated or not). Please provide enough insulin for your pet’s stay, preferably additional in the event of an extended stay.

Can you add medication and/or supplement/vitamin to my pet’s food?

Yes, however, we might require all medications, supplements, or vitamins to be separate from your pet’s food in the event your pet does not consume the entirety of their meal. All prescribed medications are required to be in their original containers.

Can my dog receive a bath before pick-up?

Should you be interested in a Bath & Brush for your pet during their stay, please feel free to reserve their spa services at the time of booking or inquire about pricing with our staff.

What happens if your location loses power?

Should our facility lose power, our back-up generator instantaneously turns on ensuring we are never without a moment of power to heat and cool our location.

What happens when I arrive?

A member of our staff will greet you at your vehicle at your scheduled arrival time. If you’re a first time guest, we will spend time together discussing our facility and procedures so that you best understand the layout of your pet’s stay with us. We encourage you to ask any questions you may have at this time!

Can you separate my pets when they are fed?

Absolutely! All canine guests are provided meals in the privacy of their suite. Cats sharing a condo can not be separated during meals.

Does my dog need to be spayed/neutered to board or attend daycare?

We recognize many dogs require additional time to reach appropriate age/size to be spayed or neutered. We will work with clients that are under the direction of a veterinarian regarding the time frame for spaying and neutering. Please be aware that we cannot accept intact males who excessively mark, attempt to mount or otherwise harass other dogs. We cannot accept females in heat or showing any signs that they will come into heat soon. If any of these possibilities arise during your pet’s stay, we will require that your pet be promptly picked-up from our location and return when he or she has been altered.

How safe is the facility?

Garden City Pets is staffed by our on-site owner and staff. Our boarding accommodations are equipped with surveillance cameras to ensure peace of mind for our clients throughout the night. We have various top-notch safety procedures in place and pride ourselves on our cleanliness standards.

Does my dog go outside while boarded?

Absolutely! While boarding, your pet receives ample opportunity to potty throughout the day. We understand that some dogs do not feel comfortable relieving themselves while on a leash. For this reason, all dogs have access to the outside areas to relieve themselves at their convenience. In addition, all boarding dogs are invited to participate in daycare.

What is Dog Daycare?

Dog Daycare provides your dog or puppy with an opportunity to socialize, as well as an appropriate outlet for their energy in a supervised environment. Our program is a great way to give your pup exercise, mental stimulation, and socialization with both dogs and people. Owners can feel confident knowing their dog will be well-cared for while they play all day in our safe and secure environment monitored by our certified staff. We take note of your pet’s special needs and diligently monitor each guest closely throughout the day. We select playgroups based on size, age, activity level, and play style.

Does a dog ever get hurt? What would you do if my dog gets hurt?

Like kids on a playground, your pet can be injured simply from playing. If your pet were to need medical care for any reason, we would immediately contact you and your listed veterinarian first. In the event your veterinarian is unavailable we would use our veterinarian of choice. We would immediately notify you of the situation via phone and should you be unreachable, reach out to your emergency contact.

Why shouldn’t I give my pet food or water for an hour after pickup?

Your pet can be very excited at first and may be prone to drinking/eating too much too fast which can cause them to ingest air and vomit. You should allow them time to settle down. Ice cubes are recommended for thirst.

What vaccinations do you require?

We require up-to-date vaccinations for Rabies, Distemper/Parvo, and Bordetella for dogs and Rabies and FVRCP for cats. Please visit our Exotic Pet Boarding page to learn more about specific requirements for more unique pets.

What is the Bordetella vaccination for and why does my pet need it?

Like kids in school, common colds spread frequently. The Bordetella vaccination helps to protect against Upper Respiratory/Canine Cough/Tracio Bronchitis often referred to as “kennel cough”. It is required so that we may try and eliminate the spread of germs from dog to dog. Please ask our staff for more information about Bordetella should you have any additional questions.

My pet is on a special diet/raw diet, can you do that?

Yes, we strive to make your pet’s experience as comfortable as possible and can certainly feed special or raw diets. Please call us to discuss further prior to your pet’s stay.

My pet is on medication. Can you administer that? Is there a fee for medication administration?

Yes, we can absolutely administer medications. We do not charge for medication administration at this time. All medications, supplements and vitamins are administered by our experienced staff and are carefully tracked. Any and all medications must be provided in their original container with a note detailing the amount and time of dispense. Please note whether the medication requires refrigeration or not. All scheduled drugs are labeled and safely stored in a lockbox. Please provide enough medication for your pet’s stay, preferably additional in the event of an extended stay.

Can I call for updates and status reports?

Absolutely! Please do not hesitate to call or email us and we’ll gladly let you know how your pet is doing during their stay!
